Geosportle

Geosportle FAQ

Geosportle is a free daily sports geography game. Every day everyone gets the same five famous sports moments, from World Cup finals to Grand Prix wins. For each one you pin where it happened on a 3D globe and guess the year, then read the real story behind it.

How do you play Geosportle?
Read the clue, spin the globe and tap where the moment happened, then drag the pin to fine-tune it. Slide to the year and lock in your guess. You then see the answer, how far off you were and a short story. Five questions make a round.
How does Geosportle scoring work?
Each question is worth up to 100 points: 70 for where and 30 for when. A pin within 10 km earns full where points, falling away with distance, and every year off costs 3 points. Later questions count more (×1, ×1, ×2, ×3, ×3), so a perfect round scores 1,000.
When does the new Geosportle puzzle come out?
A new puzzle starts every day at midnight UK time (London). Everyone in the world gets the same five moments that day, so you can compare scores with friends and on the daily leaderboard.
Is Geosportle free? Do I need an account?
Geosportle is free to play in any web browser and needs no account or sign-up. Your streak and stats are tied to an anonymous player ID kept in your browser, and you can move it to another device with a one-time code.
Which sports are in Geosportle?
Football, cricket, Formula 1, tennis, rugby, golf and athletics, plus boxing, basketball, baseball, ice hockey, American football, cycling, swimming and horse racing. A daily round usually mixes five different sports across several continents.
Can I play old Geosportle puzzles?
Yes. Practice lets you replay any previous day since launch, or play random rounds by sport, for free. Practice rounds are scored but never touch your streak or the leaderboard. The archive lists every past puzzle with its answers.
How do streaks work?
Your streak counts the consecutive days on which you finish the daily round. Miss a day and it goes back to zero. Practice rounds don’t count towards it.
Can I play Geosportle with friends?
Yes. Create a group and share its invite link to get a private daily leaderboard for up to 50 players. After every round you can also share your emoji score grid without giving away the answers.
Where do the questions come from?
Every answer is checked against Wikidata, which supplies the venue’s coordinates and the date, and each question links to the event’s Wikipedia article. Questions are drafted with the help of AI, checked automatically against those sources and reviewed before they are scheduled.
Can I install Geosportle as an app?
Yes. Geosportle is a web app you can add to your home screen: use Install in Chrome or Edge, or on iPhone tap Share and then Add to Home Screen. It then opens full screen like a native app.
How is Geosportle different from GeoSports, TimeGuessr or Worldle?
Geosportle asks where and when: you pin the venue and guess the year of a sports moment, between 1870 and today. GeoSports and GeoFooty ask only where, TimeGuessr and WhenTaken use photographs rather than sports moments, and Worldle and Globle are about countries.
